How to Tell a Trusted Adult

You do not have to explain everything at once. Say what happened, how it is affecting you, whether you are safe now and what you need the adult to do.

What you can do now

  1. Choose a safe adult who can act in real life
  2. Use a message or note if speaking feels difficult
  3. If the first adult is unsafe or does not respond, tell another adult
  4. For assault, threats, sexual harm or immediate danger, move to a public safe place and contact local emergency help

Trusted adults

  • A safe caregiver or relative
  • A teacher, school counsellor or coach
  • A qualified health professional; an unverified online contact is not a substitute for a safe adult in real life
